post up if you're working on summat, or if you need help, or whatnot
there are various other threads & stickies addressing specific subjects (eg how to podcast), but i figured it might be nice to have a thread just for those work-in-progress issues which might get lost elsewhere, and which might not in themselves warrant a whole new thread each time.
okay, currently i am about 25 minutes into the 5th bootleg show, and have done 15 mins on the film/soundtrack show. i've also got a few folders set aside with an eye on both a non-bootleg music show, and a covers-only music show. i think i should have one show ready by the end of this week, and another by the end of the next.
things i'm interested in are some decent idents - if anyone's made any spiffy tcre jingles any chance of a lend? - and also film soundtracks/incidental music/foley/sound fx etc. dialogue isn't too much of a problem, it's ambient sounds and stuff i'm really after, plus resonant theme music and recurring motifs. i don't want to say what i'm already working with, it'd ruin the surprise
also, i'd really like to collaborate on some speech programming...

excellent idea
i'll contribute a few jingles. maybe we could upload our jingles onto soundclick so we can share and share alike. i'll set something up tomorrow
i'll do some speech if you have anything in mind. gimme a theme....
i have about half of the tunes for my next show, once i feel the pressure i just tend to go and collect the rest and chuck the rest together in a couple of hours (who'd a thunkit)
if anyone wants background music for the fill ins i can literally churn it out |

My laptop has just gone pop and keeps giving out massive sparks when I try to plug it in. Gonna try and borrow a hd caddy to see if I can rescue my radio show I'm working on, off the hard disk.
Not the end of the world if it is all gone though, just many hours wasted. |

Poor Drew!
Yeah we need some proper good jingles. I haven't had the means to make good ones, I literally just texted my landline with mine, and recorded it into a mic!
Audacity peeps: do you find it gets really temperamental if you have too many tracks going on at once? I have been using new tracks for each sound clip, and it gets all very slow, sometimes closing by itself. I've found I've had to do half of the show, then mix down to a wav before carrying on with the second half. Is there an easy way to avoid this? :-/ |

Dunno :? Could you put multiple sound clips on one track? Can you do that? It's a mystery...
I fancy having a go at some jingly indenty things. Got my PC set up in the new flat now, but still got no broadband (just dialup on me laptop in the front room. It's costing me 2p/min to post this ) Should be back up and connected in a week or so. Ho hum... Might have a go at a few things in the mean time and upload them at work or summat.
Planning another show wiv my tunes, and a collaboration wiv Barney Bee on a show, cos he's got tunes too innit.
Soon(ish) come, soon(ish) come... |

yes!
now i tend to work in sections with 3 or 4 tracks in each; i open one mp3 in audacity, then apple-i (command-i on pc???) to import another, blend them together, save project as .aup, then import the next track, blend it in, save, and so on. i also periodically use the 'quick mix' tool on the 'project' menu (and then save!) as soon as i'm happy with a transition between tracks - it helps keep the number of channels smaller, and makes jogging carefully-positioned stuff harder!
then when that section is complete, i'll save it as a .aiff file (or as a .wav), and go on to the next section in the same way, and then the next, until i've got 3 or 4 .aiff files to glue together, and then add any garnishes over the top. then i save one big .aiff for luck, and finally export as mp3.
i try never to have more than 3 audacity windows open, as like you say it really slows down. using the 'import audio' command (off the 'project' menu) helps reduce the number of windows you have open anyway. |

| You can't put all the soundy clips on one track very easily, cos you need to align all the little bits with the end/start of tunes, and you can't have lots of little unconnected clips on one track, it won't allow it (if that makes sense)! You would have to have it recording between the bits, and then it would become difficult to manouevre the clips to where you wanted them iyswim, which you probably don't cos I ain't explaining it very well... |

well, i've got all the tracks for my next show, doing a show with a glitch/dnb/ragga/hiphoppy/other vibe. all a bit weird, but i think it should make sense when it's finished. i still haven't figured out how to use audacity properly yet, i just cowboyed it for my first radio show.
should hopefully make a start in the next few days. i'm going to have a go at making some idents etc. are there any free decent voice generator tings on web that anyone knows about? how did you do robotic voices etc krs? |

Re: robot voices etc, you can use vst effects with audacity if you install the vst enabler:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/plugins
and I'm sure there are free vocoder/robot filters out there. Then you could robotize your own voice.
Or there are definitely a few free text > speech websites out there, cos I used one of them in the past. I'll see if I can find one. |

I've re-taught myself to mix in a decent manner. However, I still don't have a computer or broadband, so it's going to take a while before I record anything.
First out the gates will be an oldskool mix (natch) from the '92 era. After that I think I'm gonna do a load of short mixes (4 or 5 tunes) focusing on one artist or label. |

If you can record onto minidisc or tape or something, and send it to me, I can mp3 it and upload it somewhere. |

I need some idents!
The microphone port on my pc is fucked so i can't do any speaking (and i sounded like a nob when i tried it on misskitty's computer anyway ) so i need a few idents and shit just to say something like "this is the coolest radio ever" and "visit www.thecoolestthingever.co.uk" etc etc
the ones i tried doing last time sounded a bit shite i reckon. i want some robot voices or something |

right, after some teething troubles yesterday, the film-themed music show seems well under way, and fingers crossed it'll be ready tomorrow... just about another quarter-hour of stuff to put in there... so stand by your bunks |

have updated the podcast update thread - now called TheCoolestRadioEver podcast page! coolestradio.podomatic.com - to make it clearer what it's for, and to give it a clearer title.
have updated the index thread - now called TheCoolestRadioEver! TCRE download page... - again to make it clearer, and to remove dead megaupload (etc) links, and to link to relevent threads and podcast pages.
have updated the actual coolestradio podcast page so ninja's, misskitty's, strung out's and my last shows are all there; there's also another ninja mix there, but there's space for another 2 or 3 shows. i have also added links to the respective podomatic pages in each episode. |
