Here you can post reviews of films you see down the cinema, on telly, on a plane, on dvd or on a hot air balloon for all i fucking care. Bourne Identity was the last one i watched on itv2 last night, it gets a good score because it has a.)Car chases, b.)explosions c.) nice girl d.) mini cooper and e.)paris! dont get mooch better than that, 8/10

haven't seen bourne identity

last film i saw was eternal sunshine.... it only cost me about 2 quid for the vcd. it's one of my favourite films ever, it reminds me of a relationship i was in, the story makes you think about identity and true love

it is also shot amazingly, i don't think a second of it is badly shot, michel gondry is a pure artist in every sense of the word. jim carrey is actually really good in it as well

dave chapelle's block party

yankee comedian dave chappelle decides to put on an old-style free block party in the bed-stuy bit of brooklyn, because... well, just because, really.

he hands out tickets to all sorts in his hometown out in ohio - to fellas in the street, the woman in the shop where he buys his fags, his barber - as well as giving them out over tintin net; and along the way we meet some interesting people, from both ohio and from noo yoik (a hippie couple in the dilapidated building next to where the party's going to take place are particularly memorable, and we meet lots of local kids, because they are teh future), and learn that good people is good people, no matter what their background

the music is grand - lots of conscious hiphop like dred prez, talib kweli, mos def etc, and more soulful stuff like jill scott and erykah badu - and dave seems like a nice chap. and he gets a marching band from ohio's central state university to come too, which plays nice against kanye west

anyhoo, nice music, nice people, nice sentiment, very enjoyable. go watch

recently:

cujo fast-paced, pretty decent low-budget film version of the stephen king rabid st. bernard horror novel, with top character actor ed lauter, and dee wallace (elliot from 'e.t.'s mum) too - oh, and 'speed' director jan de bont does some fancy camerawork

mary poppins top nanny action, terrible cockernee accents

rolling thunder william devane returns home to texas after ten years in a vietnamese p.o.w. camp where he was tortured, to a wife who has shacked up with another man, a son who barely remembers him, and a town which doesn't understand what he went through. a bunch of local hoods beat and torture him to try and get him to tell them where he's stashed a load of silver he was presented with to commemorate his release... there's a whole lotta blood shed after that. better than i thought it would be, with a good background performance by tommy lee jones as a fellow returned m.i.a. - more 'dragonfire' than 'coming home', with a hint of 'first blood' and slightly reminiscent of 'bad day at black rock'.

last night watched the 6 hour 'original uncut' mini-series version of das boot, which is about a german submarine crew on a patrol in the atlantic during the second world war, with jürgen prochnow as the weary captain, and herbert grönemeyer as a navy photojournalist along for the trip. very claustrophobic, and definitely not a flag-waver... best sub movie/series ever!

you're thinking of 'the beguiled' - uncouth wounded union soldier comes upon school for young southern belles to avoid johnny rebs and forces them to tend to him at gunpoint; he seduces them collectively and a few individually... scary shit innit

if i were a more bitter , petty and spiteful man than already i am ( ) i'd point out that elsewhere on tintin net i did an extensive series of film polls, including multi-thread series on westerns, with various sub-genre votes, all of which were wiped out and never reinstated... proper, full-on 12 option polls, with complete précis in the o.p. an ting, as well...

loads of threads got 'accidentally' deleted/misplaced, and you had to specifically ask for them to be reinstated, which isn't much good if you don't remember the *exact* thread title :-/

i lost dozens if not a hundred or so threads - most of my film, tv and music ones
