bristle is the only one who uses it i think, have just had a quick play about with it and the only thing i could think of is if you have highlighted the bit which keeps looping
brizzle wrote a big 'how to' which is halfway down the page in useful stuff

actually there's two 'how to' threads, got one printed here in front of me waiting for me to do summat with it
sovietpop - search on 'audacity' you might find yer answer there if you need to know before krzzle gets back from his wedding shennanigans

actually I think the problem is that my computer doesn't have enough processing power, so when I import the soundfile, it imports it in lots of little repeating bits, iykwim.

You cleared all the random stuff out of temp files etc? Cut down what's on your desktop?

Question ...
I just recorded some speech. I needed to stop recording and restart several times. Now when I play it back it's overlaid all the separate bits of speech, which sounds pretty funny but I want them running one after the other iyswim
What did I do wrong?
Can I fix it?
OK, that's two questions

S'OK .... I worked it out using Krzzle's sticky

so how did you diddle it?
on the same sort of issue, it's generally easier to keep the tape rolling, so to speak, and record all your bits in one go, and then later chop it up and cut out the gaps and shizzle, cuz it's more managable, and easier to apply the same effects to all of the speech stuff in one go. audacity doesn't have get fiddly when you've got more than about 10 tracks on the go (tip: whenever you're happy with a sequence, select the constituent tracks and go 'project > quick mix' - it takes a bit of time, but makes things easier)

heh, it was only a test, but a useful one cos I know how to move the tracks around now. Plus - the obvious - pause instead of stopping and starting!
Am finishing this thingy I'm doing and then work out the export type shizzle then I'll play with some music stuff this evening

Switch off your speakers when recording, maybe?

is it an echoey sound playing whilst you are recording (out of your pooter speakers/stereo if it's hooked up), only on the recording when you play it back, or both? and is it all the time, or only when you record through the microphone?
also, how are you recording? are they mp3s you've imported into audacity, or are you playing tracks on hifi equipment through a mixer into your pooter?

You can have a listen if you like
my first attempt
Mic ->PC -> normal windows mixer controls (I think)
It's whilst recording and playing back but not when I'm listening to choons

when you say
Mic ->PC -> normal windows mixer controls
is your system playing back any audio whilst you are recording?
if it is then it's probably just as hiccup says, feedback from the mic picking up the sounds you're recording, sending it through to the speakers then picking up the audio again and sending it round, etc. in which case you might be better off monitoring it through headphones, but if not, with the speakers turned off or low.

Ah, thanks
Yes, when I'm speaking I hear myself delayed through the speakers which makes it well confusing trying to concentrate on what I'm saying with having what I just said playing at the same time ifyswim. I guess the mic is picking up the speaker sound. I don't have any headphones so I'll just have to work out how to turn the speakers off while I'm talking into the mic.
Cheers!

Dunno why, but that is very very quiet.
That is indeed a weird echo. Doesn't sound like leakage from the speakers. Most odd.

Yeah I turned down the volume input as otherwise the feedback was fkkkkkkn 'orrible
Dunno what's going on tbh
