clumsy by jeffrey brown

according to jeff, "Clumsy was drawn between April 20 and July 14 of 2001 and depicts events that occurred between July 3 2000 and June 27 2001".

i bought this on tuesday and had finished it by late wednesday, taking every spare minute i could grab to read a bit more. i'd never heard of jeffrey brown before, i just picked this up in the shop because the staff had put up a 'recommended' card next to a whole display of his books, and after flicking through a few pages i was totally won over.

clumsy is the first of three graphic novels jeffrey brown has written about past relationships. he's put together a selection of memories that each last from one to four pages, and they aren't in chronological order, which is quite nice rather than confusing. you see how jeff and theresa meet, their first night together, his last night with his previous girlfriend, different stuff they get up to, and the way they grow apart and ultimately break up.

it's all so familiar, but not in a miserable depressing way. it is sad in places but overall its just one of the sweetest, nicest things ive ever read. i hope theresa liked it because id be over the moon to have such a lovely little book written about me

anyway, here's a couple of pages i scanned in so you get an idea what its like.

ps his website is here www.theholyconsumption.com

he shares the space with three other writers/artists and you can read about them and view some sample pages there.

also, every sunday they put up a new sketch, cartoon, page in progress, etc. i only just looked at the site but it seems quite nice
