Isn't that O'Brien? Goldstein was the legendary figure who was supposedly leader of the "brotherhood" - the rebel force in the book which never actually appears :-/

nah that was O'Brien. The one that Winston thought was a member of the "Brotherhood", led by Goldstein, but was actually one of the Thought Police. Goldstein never actually appears in the book at all... which possibly indicates he is a complete myth, used as a ploy by The Party

i was so dissapointed with how it turned out, i think the idea was tha Goldtein and the rebellion was just a big plot to catch people like winston

yes. It certainly is bleak - its like the whole Blake 7 thing - was Blake and his crew just a rebel force that the Federation creates time and time again in order to control its subjects??
