Iam, I think you're right. We've hit form at the right time with Sheff and Matsui (next week) to come back. We've finally found a fifth pitcher.

There are two things in our way.

(1) Detroit's pitching. Fucking awesome on it's day and we'll have them in the ALCS.

(2) The Mets. Full stop. That'll be a better subway series than nearly a decade ago... I think there are three teams in baseball this year. Mets, Tigers, Yanks.

And 1 in 3 is a good chance. Love seeing Boston flunk as a result of the Boston massacre.

Thing for me is, by and large the Yanks have put games away when it matters, and that's what wins the WS...

Detroit have been amazing (and great to watch, too) this year. Wonder how much of that is the Pudge-factor? Can their pitching win them games in the playoffs?

Realistically, you should be hoping to beat the best side in the ALCS... Those champ seasons, they swept past great some great sides in the 1st round and the CS... and it lined them up for things like the 4-0 blowout of the Pads.

Plus, the A-Rod thing. Not NY's favourite man, but don't put it past him to suddenly gain a massive bat.

The Mets... well, can't take anything away from them, for a good deal of the season they've been the best team in Baseball... but... they just don't feel like a championship side to me. Can't say why exactly, but I'd love to see Randy vs. Pedro in Game 1....

Randy won't pitch Game 1 in a million years. Moose every time unless the ALCS (counting chickens here) goes a long way.

A-Rods errors could have cost us this year. They have cost us 5 or 6 games, but he's hit 5 homers in the last 4 - I agree with you, he could come up with it.

It should be one of those three, but the Whitesox or someone will probably spoon it.

Zambrano (who has been the real star pitcher there the last few years) left with a sore back - again - tonight. He's our only pitcher this year with both a start and a winning record, 14-5.

That should tell you a few things.

Wood's shoulder simply can't sustain the strain of his throwing action, and no one seems interested in taking a few mph out of that fastball... He's been in the pen a bit, but he's on the 60 day DL and won't pitch again before spring - if at all for the Cubs.

Prior is on the 15 day DL again, but when he has thrown (40+ innings this year), he's not been either fit or on form, 1-6.

Sean Marshall's been decent for a rookie and I'd say he has potential, especially as he's a big, 3 pitch, left-hander which is always a useful thing to have in the lineup, but behind our non-producing offense, he's 5-9. At least he's managed 13 starts, though, racking up 100+ innings of work.

It's time the reliance on Wood and Prior was put where it belongs - to rest. It isn't going to happen.
