killr new dnb

Jah.

A thread to list new dnb - that should be downloaded and that.

I download most of what seems to be poplar - but i don't always get the time to listen to it - but will add to here as and when...

yourselves?

Ninjadmin

i just downloaded a load of old stuff by hive

i haven't liked dnb for years tbh, it is good, just cos i listened to too much of it, and breakcore is better
Juxtaposeur

What he say.
But I'm open to suggestions. I stopped listening to most dnb in the mid 90s.
It never sounds like it's moved on in anyway.
bob

nah cos i think alot of it is still really good - don't know names atm - but yeah sure it's not as WOW as breakcore is atm.
bob

checking out some newish releases atm - it's not as good as it was say 5 years ago, let alone the ealry [whatever] 90s. IMO.

It still interesting - but maybe it's veered away from loved up dance floor stuff.
bob

break - the show. over intellectual.
Ninjadmin

there probably is still good stuff coming out, but it moves so slowly
bob

in a way :-/

nah i haven't been to any live breakcore - had tickets for the 1st day at supersonic - seemed like a good lineup - but couldn't make it. i may pop down london in a few weeks ... haftl see what i can find wrt listings.
Ninjadmin

you wanna go to the zombie raves in newcastle

http://www.newcastlebeats.com
bob

some commix stuff: actually quite good IMO - not just a name

he's metalheadz - that's a goldie label isn't it. i've always had a soft spot for goldie's stuff.
Juxtaposeur

I've actually liked the London Electicity stuff that Tim plays sometimes on Radio Clash.
bob

new stuff?
bob

fuck i love DNB. i don't listen to enough.

I like London Elektricity stuff aussi

But then, I have a vast collection of the whole range of styles that is known as drum and bass.

Infact, if you compared one end of the spectrum to the other, they sound like entirely different musical genres.

With me it's not so much the 160-180 beats per minute but the deep and dirty sub-bass that physicallly penetrates my very being...you lads sooo miss out on the full affect...apparently us ladies are highly sensitive to it's charm

Believe so.
I've only got their first few releases (back in the day - mid/late 90s stuff) but check out http://www.myspace.com/londonelektricity

Pete
fizzerbird

They have new stuff?

What on that link?
Juxtaposeur

Looks like it. Some a couple of years old, but new Hard Fi remix n stuff.
fizzerbird

Cheers,

I'll check it out then
bob

d-kay is getting good reviews [i think anyway]... cheesy but a really showy first tune on his album. the rest seemed good too bit i weren't really concentrating.
districtline

is this some kind of techno
bob

in a way

techno's alright - it is in a way IMO the perfect bpm for the dancefloor - you gotta think that house is sometimes a bit slow and dnb etc. a little silly when dancing to.

Fek me! Someone who has da insight!

I agree toe ta leeeee! Techno...excellent beat for losing yerself in dance moves...easy, tis also, believe it or not brilliant to have on low in the background when writing essays etc! House is kinda all over the place when dancing and so you have to either know the choon or concentrate to move to the beats ( something quite difficult to do when under the influence ) AND I understand about the 'silly' dnb lol that again depends on the type...you could end up looking like a thunderbirds puppet if not careful...have to say though, best to get all that energy spent...i've even mastered poi to DNB!

The one I just don't get...I mean really dont see how the Fek you can dance to it is GABBA! How the bloody hell do you dance to that? All I end up doing is looking like I have parkinsons desease whilst using a mnuematic drill
bob

yeah techno is energy music isn't it.
Ninjadmin

i used to go to techno parties and all i remember is that fucking helicopter noise and wanting drumnbass

i could never afford enough druqks to enjoy tekno
bob

enough druqks
yeah once you've gone that far tho there's no going back IME

Sounds like you need more drugs if you're still worring about what you look like when dancing to it. I love the rush on Gabba, don't know that you could call the moves I make to it "dancing".
A friend of mine explained to me once, before I "got" dnb, that the 4/4 beat of House and Techno was very artificial and that Jungle/dnb had more natural rhythm. He likened it to the tribal beats in Africa, Asia and South America.
Although, I like, and play, the odd bit of House and Techno I don't particularly like a whole night of it and I much prefer to dance to Jungle and Breakcore (even if I do look like an idiot). I would agree with my friend, it feels more natural.

Pete
bob

x-zero - necromancer. sounds quite new sounding.
bob

you can't say that you need more drugs to enjoy ir but dancing to it is more natural! [/philosopher].
Juxtaposeur

I was only talking about "natural" highs of course.

I didn't say Gabba was natural. It's electronic brutality. But great.
And I can listen to and enjoy Jungle with out stimulants.

Pete
bob

nah IMO techno's got a drive and energy that dnb hasn't, it's just that dnb is complicated enough that you can happily dance to it without being a knuckle head. still i listen to alot more dnb and probably enjoy dnb more.
Ninjadmin

i'm the same as juxtaposeur, i just 'got' drumnbass more easil than techno, just felt a lot easier to dance to and enjoy

i don't agree about the 'more natural' thing. a lot of tribal beats are 140bpm, and techno sounds excellent with tribal stuff over the top
Juxtaposeur

I don't think he was refering to the speed of the beats, just the rhythm. Tribal beats like Jungle are more fluid/less rigid than many monotonous 4/4 tracks. Though, I agree some sounds in Techno are really cool and I still love the minimal techno of Richie Hawtin et al purely for the gradually shifting driving rhythm.
I think the bottom line is that it is all electronic to some degree, but techno and house are usually based on an synthesised drum beat whereas Jungle, Breakcore etc more often samples real drumming, or the breakbeat, which maybe one of the reasons I prefer it.
I love sampling and recycling in many forms from mashups to Breakcore.
bob

i was referring to the bpm.
bob

what annoys me atm with alot of new guitaur based music is that it's relying on the drum patterns to connect with the audience. maybe it's my imagination, but the blues is in the guitaur - not the drums.
bob

tactile - the joker. not as new sounding as the necromancer, but got a quite nice feel to some of it brought it my some reasonable [i don't know the name of the drum - like fast rythem pattering sound].

it's weird cos eventhough i have bough fuck all dnb and not really dwnlded much, i know more about what is a cliche and what is innovative than anything else. not much mind i'm not a producer/dy or anything.

yeah loads of the oink stuff sounds quite housey now you mention it ninjadmin.

hmm, yes and no

i suppose jungle i agree with, but that's just the amen, honestly, you make music, have you ever been stuck on a track for ages, then just thought 'ah fuck it' and made it 10 times better by putting fucked up amens over it?

there is some amazing drum n bass which is mad completely from scratch on synths....
Juxtaposeur

True. I just love that amen break I guess.
bob

seba and paradox - move on. i put this here depsite it not "moving on" in any interesting way, because it's missing a break iyswim [as an extra layer or whatnot], and is quite cute cos of that. housey
bob

these ARE all on oink btw

cheers

bob
Ninjadmin

paradox is class, do you like Hive?
bob

don't remember them TBH. and don't THINK i've dwnded anything "fresh".
bob

it might just be cos i'm in love with you ninjadmin - but i just had a memeory of being told that they were fucking amazing about 4 years ago. so yeah, i was sure i had heard of them anyway.
Ninjadmin

yeah, all the stuff i like is quite old now

hive and tech itch are the dons of dark stuff

you don't wanna be in love with me
Ninjadmin
