Great art should challenge preconceptions and boundaries

Does anyone know if 29.3GB freespace and 192MB RAM and processing 1.40 GHz is enough to run Photoshop properly?

Yup, it won't run very fast but you can change how much ram and stuff it uses in the preferences. I used to run photoshop on a 450mhz 10gb 128mb pc
Now my phone is just as powerful (insane!)

it'll stll run, I have photoshop cs3 running on a computer below the ideal spec. I just have to be patient and shut a few other progs down - whizzes along on the laptop which was half the price but three times as powerful!!

Ah cool, good job I haven't told her yet. Maybe I ought to get her over here to set it up ... you can be the help desk

If you're going to be doing minor editing and things then you'll be fine but if you're going to be doing anything serious - or stuff for print, then I'd whack at least 1GB of ram in there and about 2GB swap file (what photoshop uses to store its temp files)

She's a studie with no money, and this laptop. She's on some sort of design course (can't remember which one) so it was really so she could work on her stuff from home rather than hiking into the college to use their PCs.
I'm not sure it'll work tbh, I wrote down how to tell me how much memory and diskspace she has but still had to talk her through it, she's not a techie type. I don't know that I can get it running so it don't seize everything up to a snails pace on her ickle pootie :-/

It'll run like a dog on a laptop, sorry. Photoshop only really runs well on modern or high end laptops, and like a dream on macs. Like Ninjaboy says, she's better of getting photoshop 7 - there isn't a great deal of difference to be honest (apart from she'd have to save down a version).
PM or call me if you get stuck init
