The minimalists....i've been reading the minimalism article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimalism_music
and i'll tell you what's blown me away. the 4 big people who created it, reich young riley glass, they don't seem to have been educated in music. they were just art fags in new york, afaict. make me think - what group of random dropouts could create a new form of music that isn't even some dodgy math rock hardcore hybrid or dance music. useless drop outs can create something like minimalism - an entirely credible genre.
groovy. maybe it's yee

i think it was kant or someone beginning with a K who invented the idea of minimalism

yeah, i suppose it's easy to blur that. but minimalism is a pretty credible thing to create. except half of them seem to have been involved with the velvet underground, which i don't understand.

i'd expect you of all people to know that mozart pretty much made all this shit up 200 years ago
the reason velvet underground are associated with so many cool projects is because andy warhol ploughed all of his money into projects like them, they all used to hang out recording albums, painting pictures and getting high
so they all knew each other
shame all their films are atrocious really

ok so i must have been high or something when i read that article because they all now seem to have a music education. but reich did say | Quote: | | I drove a cab in San Francisco, and in New York I worked as a part-time social worker. Phil Glass and I had a moving company for a short period of time. I did all kinds of odd jobs [...] I started making a living as a performer in my own ensemble. I would never have thought that it was how I was going to survive financially. It was a complete wonder. |
