what is your opinion oni don't mean like shit music - i mean cheesy music. cheesy dnb e.g., a bit weirdly jazzy - that sort of thing. IYSWIM

i love the hospital records stuff and the brazilian stuff which is kind of cheesy. but i hate the really cheesy stuff
i'm quite a big fan of catchy choruses tho,

bob

yeah hospital can be well cheesy. it's like the antithesis of hardcore punk IME

i used to listen to rob d banks easy listening show, religiously. he did a sengement called cheesy or baleric - where listeners would have to vote if a tune he picks is cheesy or not. i reckon the key was - all cheese is baleric. it's just kinda relaxing.

the poll is too difficult tho - somewhre between always relaxing and can be cool.

i think a lot of people get it wrong
the cheesiest drumnbass in the world is not hospital or john b just cos they use a lot of house samples, what i would call cheese is shit like dillinja and mampi swift who just make it by numbers
bob
dilinja 'Bass in the face'. He can be fun tho - he's just a bit dim probably.
bob
how do you identify a house sample then?
Ninjadmin
you can tell house sample cos they use vocoders (that effect daft punk used on all their songs with singing in) or violin sort of stuff. you know what i mean bob, the bits with dudes singing and 70s guitar samples etc
the really depressing thing about dillinja and swift is that if you listen to what they were making 10 years ago it is a lotmore futuristic than what they make now

all the liquid funk samples then. i only ever used to go to hard house, which i don't really remember being very laid back.
Ninjadmin
hard house was just slow gabba
i thought it was ok, but it was kind of boring for me, all that flat beat stuf didn't ever get me
bob

i still hear it sometimes "on campus" - and think - christ that's hard

heres a song much harder than hard house
bob

beginning reminds me of that underwater love song. i'm not sure my system can handle it. breakcore or whatever seems to be to be a bit ironic tho in it's hardness.
bob
too much syncopation to be sustained-hardness. i dunno tho it's not like i'm a musician.
Ninjadmin
what does syncopation mean?
bob
well, usually it means a missed beat - but i meant just that a break or whatever isn't used for a long stretch of the music. tbh that's what annoyed me about breakcore when i first heard it - that they wouldn't use a gabba break for more than a few seconds. wimps
Ninjadmin
that's what i love about it, you can't get bored cos it changes every 3 seconds
here is a gabba tune i made bob (i hope you don't mind me subjecting you to my back catalogue

hey that's cool - sounds like you're exprimenting with the dark side
bob
yeah i like how you bring in or whatever new breaks. should be more repetitive tho IMO.
Ninjadmin

thing is, same as with hiphop, i could just make 1000 tunes like that, i want to make something that noone has done before

| bob wrote: | wimps | it's just a hang over from good pills and respactable hard house nights. fuck i forget what my local was - was it just 'bass'. can't remember in all honesty.

imo [i go on about my theories of aesthetics too much already tbh] but that's about 'music' and not 'aesthetics', which is something that will just pass me by until if i learn to write stuff.

in the way that i can say that land mass photos can be a bit dull cos i have taken photos YSWIM.

if its quite analogoes, then you've just gotta beat the right place at the right time with enough technical skill
bob

i guess what i'm intersted in is in what way do you want to do something new - a new genre of music. i dunno what a genre really is - so i cannot advise

i remeber when i was around eurpoe and i had about 4 rolls of film and then this dude pointed out to me that all the photos i took have been done by professionals
bob

the cleverst photo i took was of a bat cave in mexico - at dusk all the bats [like loads] come streaming down and out the cave. but i didn't have the skills to actually make a picture out of it and it was just a picture of darkness with "2 or 3" blurs.
really annoyed me that - so much so that i hardly even looked thru my photos and certainly didn't show manyone any of them.

| yeah i've listened to enough dnd [and it is quite simple - i would guess] and i think that syncopation can be quite addictive - BUT IT'S NOT CLEVER. Imo have i pissed youse off yet - i have a habit of picking at musicians - the last guitarists [a friend of a friend] eventually told me to fuck and that "you know, you're really beginning to get on my nerves"
