they didnt even shoot anything, and at the beginning when they were walking around the shit you kept on being shown all these cool spiky things and thought "cool, someones gunna slam into that later and they'll be loads of blood and that" but they didnt, like some sort of weird stripper. |

| he was pretty good in the truman show, and other movies where he isnt acting like a jerk, apart from cable guy. pretty good cast and real nice plot with that whole memory eraseness thing. |

i felt exactly like that with '9 songs' ( i was working my way through winterbottom, so i *had* to watch it  ), but it's not that bad, just a bit... boring? good as a piece of art, just not really a movie, there's nothing there for the viewer to latch on to (apart from the obvious ), no character development, no plot, no emotional texture, just an arc of events. kieran o'brien's excellent as usual, but there's really nothing for the actors to do (bar the obvious ).
'hotel rwanda' is a standard hollywood-does-developing-world-shitstorm number. it's no 'the killing fields', but it's alright. lots of character actors running round trying to BE EVIL or BE CONFLICTED YET ULTIMATELY GOOD, that sort of thing. popcorn pornography imo:
studio exec 1 - "hey, johnson, i just read me a great script about something called the rue wan dan gennerside! it's got everything - love, loss, the chance for commerical tie-ins with the sabena hotel chain..."
studio exec 2 - "johnstone, genocide is complicated, you sure about this?"
studio exec 1 - "it's 'schindler's list'-meets-'house party'!"
studio exec 2 - "is fiddy available?"
studio exec 1 - "let's make movie magic!!!"
