i wish film critics were more like that

love actually - it's got hugh grant in so it's probab;y cack

the incredibles: i didn't even bother watching cos i knew it would be cack

i saw that new hugh grant film on the plane over where he is a failed pop star and it really was cack

i quite like hugh grant cos he reminds me of one of my friends, but his films are all shite, the most exciting thing he did was getting a blowjob from a hooker by a long way

dunno what that means?

elastigirl has powers like mr fantastic, her body stretches about
mr incredible is just super strong
frozone has some of icemans powers, like he can freeze stuff and make ice slides
dash can move really, really fast like the flash
violet can turn invisible and create shields like susan storm
the bad guy, syndrome, doesnt have any super powers, he has gadgets that let him do stuff, and his voice is provided by jason lee

so all their powers are nicked, but it doesnt really matter.

Saw Paradise Lost (aka Turistas) today. Was quite entertaining. Lots of pretty girls prancing around in bikinis. Then some scary bits and some gory bits. Ending was a bit fucking lame though. 6/10

just watched Pi which I've always wanted to see but never did, that is a fucking brilliant film, really stylish, lots of cool sequences with machine code and 'everything is codes' stuff, really brilliant idea for a film and well executed, can't really think of anything bad to say about it to be honest

It also got me thinking about the amount of great films that came out in that time, about 97 - 00, there were shedloads of young directors making cool films about the end of the world, something to do with the millenium i reckon

maybe it's just cos i'm an old fart, but i can't think of that many coming out now. all the films i'm looking forward to are big budget remakes of stuff i liked when i was a kid

I've just watched 'A Tale of Two Sisters' a Korean psychological horror and it is one of the best horror films I've ever seen I think. It's hard to tell you what it's about without giving the plot away it begins with two sisters being released from a mental hospital, and returning to their family home to recover
Things quickly take a dark turn thanks to their evil stepmother bullying them while their father refuses to help, and the house being haunted, but things are not as they seem....

An absolutely brilliant film, all of the actors are excellent, the scary bits are really scary, and the plot keeps you guessing even after it finishes. The action is quite slow moving, but it's directed so that this works in it's favour leaving the audience to build the tension up. Some of the best twists i've seen for ages, and the star is pretty fit as well

10/10

heres a couple i watched a while ago , i wrote about them on turbo and just found the threads again

Ju-On- The Grudge 2

It was seriously lame. It had all the same jumpy bits, grotty hair and whited out faces. I think the writer must have real issues with women. It made absolutely no sense whatsoever and relies on that weirdo crawling woman too much. I recommend never seeing this movie.

Wilderness

The basic plot: a group of boys from a brit young offenders institution bully a couple of other kids there and one of them commits suicide. So they're all shipped off to "The Island" to teach them some sort of lesson. Basically they're sent on a camping trip with Sean Pertwee. They bump into a woman and two girls from some girls institution. Then they find a dead tramp with his neck ripped out. Someone told us it was a bit like Dog Soldiers, and the kids keep finding dream catchers and weird markers, so at this point we're getting all excited at the prospect of werewolves. THERE ARE NO WEREWOLVES IN THIS MOVIE. Nothing supernatural at all, in fact. Just letting you know so you arent as disappointed as I was. Anyways, there are some gruesome scenes where dogs tear people apart, an attempted rape (obviously), some scenes that reminded us of Severance, only Severance was much better (a woman set on fire, a man caught in a beartrap). It was all pretty predictable once you realise there are no werewolves. It's one of those movies where it was alright and not very good at the same time, iyswim. At the end you kind of wonder what the point of the whole thing was. But it wasnt a terrible movie and I enjoyed it more than Ju-On 2.

Severance

omg was it good. there were some really horrible wincey bits - if you don't like gory stuff at all you wont like this, be warned. i do, it was very funny and utterly pointless and we really enjoyed it.

v for vendetta

thats two hours (or whatever) of my life i'll never get back. what a pile of shite. i was bored within minutes, he talked too much. and it was all a bit obvious, trying to be profound but just wasnt. crap accents too.

ultraviolet

it was shit.

okay and heres a couple i watched in the past week or so:

Arena

Wicked camp as fuck 80s sci fi flick. Stars several SF TV series faces, including Armin Shimmerman, the guy who plays Gul Dukat in DS9, and Claudia Christian

It's all based round an Intergalactic fighting championship, which no human has won for decades. There's loads and loads of alien creatures, and most of them look pretty good too. Claudia takes a chance on muscley fast food worker Steve Armstrong, and Armin and Dukat are the bad guys trying to fuck up his chances. The costumes are shiny, the fightiong is hilarious, but I reckon this is as good as Flash Gordon

Hugo the Hippo/Hugó a víziló

Totally mental gorgeous psychedelic animation from the seventies. Zanzibar has been attacked by biker sharks so the sultan decides to bring in the hippos, to scare off the sharks, obviously. But the people are quick to forget the heroic hippos.. You so have to see this, if you havent already. I'd never even heard of it before it was recommended to me last week. It's stunning, and sad, and scary, and lovely.

The Time Masters/Les Maîtres du temps

Early 80s French animated movie. I spent ages and ages looking for this, we had it taped off the telly when we were kids and I didnt know it's name and couldn't track it down. Then some fucking awesome guy on another forum gave me it's name last week, I searched, found, grabbed, and watched, and then watched it again, and then another time. And it's better than I remember and I remembered it being brilliant.

Claude and his really young son Piel (he's maybe 8?) crash land on a planet inhabited by giant brain sucking bugs. Claude is stuck in their craft and dying so he sends an SOS to his friends elsewhere in space and gives Piel a microphone with which to talk to them, then sends the kid off on his own into a bizarre forest to hide and wait to be rescued.

Jaffar and his crew get the message and shoot off to get him, making a few stops on the way. There's a planet full of fucking scary faceless winged men which gave me nightmares for years. This movie rocks. You must see it I have the subbed version, pm me if you can't find it.

Toki wo Kakeru Shouju - The girl who travelled through time

Really nice n sweet manga about a teenage girlwho finds out that she can jump back in time. At first she just uses it for mischief, but of course this creates lots of problems which she has to undo before anything really serious happens

It's a nice, fun lighthearted movie. not normally the sort of anime i would watch (i prefer robots with guns and stuff) but an enjoyable way to spend a lazy afternoon
