ike, the players all get paid more in a week than it costs to buy a house in the city they play in

newcastle are a classic example, think of our best players, beardley, gascgoigne, shearer, waddle etc we produced all the best players for that generation, and not one of them came to our rescue when we were shit, they only turned up when sir john was raking it in

same goes for any club, its nowt to do with local pride, barcelona and celtic make loads of money from being the local club, but all their bst players come from abroad, that money goes to rupert murdoch and sports companies, not back into the community

is supporting a big club any better then buying a maccy ds?

Rukes are stricter for football clubs than any other employer.
Only 3 non EU Citizens allowed on the field.

The idea of local clubs for local people is shite at that level, they are different now to the old days when every kid on Tyneside could almsot claim he grandda put on his footy boots and went to play at St James Park as soon as he got back from the mine or the fishy boat came in.

yeah, i don't mind that in principle, but i do think that supporting a premier league club is the same as supporting burger king or summat

Yeah but its a bit beany-face-cob innit to slag people off cos they go to McDonalds or shop at Primark? I suppose if you grew up supporting a big name team from being a nipper then it is OK. But just to start to support a big name team is a bit tossy.

Who chooses which team they follow? Cobs probably. Your team is chosen for you/foisted upon you by the age of ten.

Going mad about a team is okay when you're up to about 18, but after that you should be spending your money on drink, clothes, then mortgage, kids etc.

yeah true, but i'm just sick of supporting newcastle when the players and the owners don't seem to give a fuck, dunno how i would feel if someone like abrahamovich bought it

But you're not actually 'supporting' them unless you go week in week out. Supporters pay to watch their teams, followers just, er, 'follow' them!

true, but in the case of newcastle, i think this season has been the first time in about 18 years where the season tickets aren't being renewed (you used to have to go on a waiting list for 3 years) and althogh we've had a couple of bad seasons, the real problem is that none of our 'star players' have any affiliation to the club. when people know that their money is just paying for michael owen to live in a mansion in chester they get apathetic

When I was a regular at OT, ages ago - late 80s - Newcastle's average gate was about 12,000. They're the biggest bunch of fairweather fans this side of Chelsea.

yeah i do remember them days, we were fucking shite tho

that's the same as any club tho, bottom of old division 2 that's what the attendances are like, theres only about 3 clubs who ever manage to fill their stadium week in week out

what i was saying is that the big clubs are so big now you aren't supporting em anyway. it didn't matter that newcastle or leeds fans still fill the stadium up every week, it's the fact they didn't get into the champ which fucked em

and the kids i taught in korea were all man utd or arsenal fans, none of them supported Ulsan or whatever
