i dunno if other people on here have already got this, but i only found it a few weeks ago but it's been around a while i think

so

step 1

download the program here

install it, like you would any program, then run it, you should get something like this

this is your MAME program,

step 2

now you need some games. here is a link, or you can just google MAME roms, there are loads of sites

http://www.romnation.net/srv/roms/mame.html

choose a game, and download it to your desktop. If possible get the (world) version of the game. If there are several versions of a game to download, be sure to get the biggest one; a lot of the roms are just so you can play the game in a different language, and not the whole gam

step 3

Now go into the directory where MAME is installed, and put the .ZIP file you downloaded into this directory. DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE!!!

so it should look like this

note

1. MAME roms directory (this is where your roms should go)
2. the roms are still zipped

step 4

now when you have put some ROMs into the directory, go back to MAME32, and press F5. MAME will search for games, and will find the roms you just downloaded.

note
a lot of the roms are dodgy, they don't work or they run with bugs, it's best to download a load, since you probably get a 1 in 3 success rate. there's a torrent with all of the games on it, but i dunno where to get it

step 5

you can set up controls and other options by pressing the tab key. 5 is to insert coins, 1 and 2 are the start buttons

now get playing

it's all for free and you can re-live your youth

edit : you can also get console emulators on the rom site

I've downloaded what I think is right. But whenever I try to open it, it asks me to open a word pad file with all the keys listed and then closes and says something about a command prompt. :? :? :?

ahhh reet

you have to get Mame32 which is the windows not DOS version

once you've installed that, you put your games into the 'rom' directory of your mame folder, and you shold be away

Right, I've got the thing downloated and also a few games which I've extracted to the roms folder - all good so far.

But the emulator dosn't seem to be able to see the roms. If I click available on the lefthand list there's nothing there...

Any ideas :?

you don't unzip the roms, you just move the whole zip file into the rom folder
