Manabi Straight is my kinda anime.

It's primarily something of a comedy however as soon as you look passed the primary happenings in the show you see a whole other world. the animation is superb with moments of gratuitous self indulgence.

the charactors are very lovable and hit many of the classic moe stereotypes

the anime is obviously done with a knowing touch. i haven't been studying it that hard and yet i have already spotted at least one subtle reverence to evangelion in it

the basic premise is this is a school story set in the near future where a declining birth rate and a revision of child labour laws mean a huge decline in numbers of students attending school.

however all you school anime fans will not be surprised by the occurrences in this show. it is about a rather unusual student council but all the standard set pieces are there. school clubs are still in operation, and there is a school festival to prepare for

however nothing is ever as cheery as it seams on the surface. we soon reveal some of the darker occurrences of the girls past and a new threat to their happy school days

but to be honest this whole plot thing is totally secondary to whats really important... the girls and their interaction.

you have the leader manabi (Manami Amamiya)
manabi is pure ADHD in a can... more energetic than than a 5 year old downing redbull mixed with speed... if you watch anime you know the type

you have the secretary mikan (Mika Inamori)
shes the nice kid.. bit of a cry baby and childish but very sweet....
there is a faint smell of lilies if you catch my drift *wiggles eyebrows*

Mucchii (Uehara Mutsuki)
the sporty one... also mega tomboy

Mee-chan (Etou Mei)
tsundere.... yep she is the angry lovable one ... very moe

momo (Odori Momoha)
ADD... in the manga shes somewhat more together but in the anime she is heading down the road to total wipe out.... not quite osaka levels though

all we need now is a meganekko ...

watch this show if

A.) you like schooldrama stuff
B.) you are an otaku

pose!

manabi, mikan, mucchi, mei, momo (right to left)

the artwork looks excellent (as far as you can tell from youtube. but i don't think i'd be able to watch schoolgirls running around doing stuff for very long without getting bored

there is mecha... buuuut

and most of the robots i know tend to be of the maid type... i mean mahoro was a combat robot who had some kick arse fighting skills ... but she is loveable because of her maid stuff...
