I had a massive Sunday lunch then walked it all off afterwards.

This is the old Bass Centre. It used to be a really cool warehouse with every kind of electronic and acoustic bass guitar and other instruments. It was there for at least 30 years then they moved Now they're converting it to apartments

<<<---- clicky for the full size version

The rest of the pics from my walk around where I live are here:

Ta! It's because of the hanging of the pub's namesake, Captain Kidd.

Quote:
Captain William Kidd was a Scottish colonial ship-owner in 1690s' New York. He became a privateer (to hunt and capture pirates) and later turned to piracy himself; he was arrested, convicted and hanged at Wapping on May 23 1701. During his execution the rope broke; he was hanged on the second attempt. His body remained on the gallows until it had been washed by three tides; it was then tarred (for preservation) and placed in gibbets for public display at Tilbury Point in Essex to discourage other pirates.

http://ultimatepubguide.com/pubs/info.phtml?pub_id=300

The Prospect of Whitby is another riverside pub in the opposite direction. They've got a noose out over the river as well - but that's because of one of their old customers in the 1600s - 'Hanging Judge Jefferies'

I took this photo in the pub yesterday, then emailed it to Flickr from my phone. Which I thought was quite clever.

There were two copies on my flickr account. I deleted the one I had linked to, and then edited my original post.

On Friday the 7th of July, Mc Canns Fish Shop on North Frederick St closed its doors after 36 years of selling fish to people from Dublin’s North Inner City. When asked about his retirement Mr Mc Cann said ‘I’m delighted. Even the Great Train robbers only got thirty years’. Thoughout the day well wishers dropped in to buy fish for the dinner and to say goodbye. Selling his last piece of fish he said ‘I hope you are more lucky than the woman who bought my first piece of fish. Her first husband was shot. It seems he offended someone and was shot in the leg. Later he died from septicemia. She then went on to have another relationhsip but he was shot too. The man who did it was convicted last week. So I hope you are lucklier than my first customer’. A passerby asked ‘ is it your last day?’. ‘It is’ he said with a broad smile on his face .’At least’, he added, ‘ it’s my last day in the shop. I hope it’s not my last day on earth.’ With that, he sold his last fish – two pieces of cod.
