we got caught using pirated vbulletin software, so that forum has been wiped out by dreamhost
so we are back here for the moment
i just got a pretty harsh email from someone who works for vbulletins intellectual property department, and they were saying that even if we buy the vbulletin licence we probably won't get our posts back
that was a fucking good idea eh?
ideas? do people want to buy vbulletin? i thought it was fun, but i'm a bit pissed off that this happened, and it is something we should have thought about
fucks sake, pre planning prevents piss poor performance
so not only did we lose 2 months worth of posts, we are worse off than we were before we went to vbulletin since we have alienated krs and derian in doing so
my idea is that we do a fundraising drive to buy vbulletin outright since we have the skins and everything, and it was cool, but this time we are not doing anything on the fly like last time |

| Dreamhost backs up the forum, but this email was very harsh, along the lines of 'even if you did buy a licence then you probably won't get the stuff you made on pirate software back |

At the end of the day, we're here cos of you and the concept of TCTE.
YOU and TCTE
And those two things don't change, and no-one will be saying 'told you so' - it's happened, OK, plan B.
Did we lose a lot of creative stuff in the new board? Or was it mainly commentary on moving stuff across? |

i reckon they must just look at hundreds of sites and check if they are using official software or not
for here we either buy vbulletin or just ressurect this board
vbulletin did have a lot of cool features, but it costs about 300 pounds a year..... |

| i just got an email from dreamhost, and it seems to boil down to that we were caught using pirate vbulletin so the forum has been suspended. if we buy vbulletin we could probably get it back, but if we don't cooperate we could have the whole vbulltein account deleted (which includes all the radio shows and tunes we are hosting, blog etc) |

I'm not bothered either way. If vbulletin + a fiver from us all per annum, that's fine by me. If coming back here, that's fine by me too.
What's more important to me is letting everyone know what's going on; big up changing the logo back btw. |

F*ck.
But surely dreamhost have the backups for the blog etc PRIOR to us starting the vbulletin forum aspect? |

everything is still working perfectly except the forum which they have removed cos it was breaking the law
they were really nice about it, i like dreamhost and i want to renew with them, i wouldn't be too sure about getting anything from the past few months on vbulletin back, because as far as the copyright people are concerned it's criminal activity
this forum is cool with me, i would like vbulletin and i don't mind chucking a few quid in, but realistically the ost will be split between about 5 people so it will be getting on for 50 pound a year. |

Can't offer much in the way of other help as don't understand much tecchy stuff. sure will all be reet though |

I'm in - I can't stand the thought of using the crappy myfreeforum interface again. If we get the posts back we get the posts back... If we don't we don't.
Let's do a sign up thread so we know how will chuck in and just do it. |

What a bugger. Anything TI can do to help, just say. £300 for vb sounds steep. Have you checked TAZ? There may be a cheaper way of doing it. If you're not a member I'll start a thread if you want. I wonder how vb found out? It could be just bad luck. If it was TI I'd be looking for a vindictive nerd, but everyone loves TCTE... |

It is about £90pa for VB I think. |

That's what I heard. A bit more if you want to pay less in subsequent years. BTW you'll almost certainly get your stuff back. It's just sitting on hard drive somewhere waiting for you to stump up the cash. They may huff and puff a bit, but that's just flannel. |

£90 is fair do's I reckon - We'll be able to easy afford that between us innit
It did say 'nulled by someone or other' at the bottom which I thought reminded me of what it used to say when I loaded up copied amiga games back in the day.... |

someone has just offered us 50 pounds towards the licence (they want to stay anonymous)
if it's only 90 pounds a year then we should have bought it in the 1st place, for some reason i thought it was a few hundred
ideally we get everyone to put in the same amount, but that may be difficult
i'll look into setting up a paypal account for TCTE after my pizza |

Ninj, can you check the blog - was playing one of t'breem's radio shows just now and it suddenly stopped ... now none of the coolestradio shows can be located by iTunes but I can play em OK from source (i.e. now playing t'breem's OK direct from his podcast). |
