ok, we are dwindling to fuck at the moment

my computer being broken has really kicked us in the nuts again, but that isn't the main reason

the real problem is that the old school people lost interest, my view is that basically its been a downward spiral since last august when we moved onto firkys vbulletin site, losing krzzle and then the board crashing and us eventually having to move back here lost everyone else

so what i want to do is get rid of the name thecoolestthingever and relaunch the board as a purely creativity based thing

i mean, all the day to day stuff is good, but we don't even have enough people to do that at the moment, so i think we should relaunch the site with a new name, and focus purely on the blog and the forum. the blog shold be for radio shows and other randomness as it was, i wish people used it and looked at it more

the forum shold only be about 5 forums

writing
art
webstuff

basically i don't want this place to die, but i need your help to make it not die. so pitch in your ideas, and say what you can do. the more you put in, the more you get out

Don't seperate writing and art - it's all creativity. Apart from that I agree.

I don't want to get political wid a small p, but I think it's got more to do with the vbullitin working/not working thing than moving to the site. We miss J as well, he was one of the most important posters and he's just stopped cos his life has changed - he doesn't live in the middle of a field on his own anymore and his laptop never works... - yeah we miss Bristle to fuck but he was going to pack it in anyway sooner or later surely if you think about it.

Doesn't matter why really does it anyway, the question is - what to do.

We should still get vbulletin working if we can, the ability to upload stuff, better search, better look no shitty, shitty adverts. The stuff that firky did like the automatic posting off podcasts was awesome...

actually, I've just won an audi a3 apparantly....

i have the vbulletin program on my computer, and i know it isn't difficult, but i can't do it, basically cos i'm a complete retard in that sense, dunno why, it just never gets done. i think i found my niche being the leader of a cabal with no leader

basically to have that posh site we used to have is not that difficult, and we've paid for it anyway, but i am never ever going to be able to do it, not a lack of skills, just ykna.....i'm a drunk

firky will never have any part in designing this site since he destroyed it. like he gave up on tcte since it crashed, even though it was totally on him switching to vbulletin. but now he can't be arsed with it cos it's fucked (it wasnt fucked till he took over......)

and i don't expect bristle or j to ever be as into it as they were, but it is still a bit of a gutter that they don't even bother saying hello

same with strung out

i really really don't want this site to dies, not after putting 3 years into it, specially having a good group of people and unfulflled potential

for example, i think urban reached it's potential a few years ago now, but this one never did

Good idea to condense the forums down to around 5 or so. atm it's too cluttered and general, people visiting (if people do visit that is, i don't know the forum stats) don't know what the forum is about. Maybe a lot of stuff could go into a 'misclanious' forum so we could discuss hard-pressing things like sporks and robots.

Unlike other forums it's too hard to stumble across this place, you have to realise that it exists first and no one spams urban anymore to recruit new members.

The ads HAVE to go.

iunderstand a lot of it is down to my computer breaking as well. i can't be arsed to update the blog or anything like that simply cos i've been using library computers and i have an hour to check email and say hello to people......

Me and my Mum's boyfriend are turning the shed in my garden into a slightly more permanent, insulated structure. Then I'm gonna put my decks in there and have a little studio set up. It' gonna be so awesome

I'm gonna get the internet out there too. I think I might just live in the shed.

I like the name. And the place - it's much more relaxed and jokey than say Urban - probably got more in common with Turbo Island than MATB or Urban. I kinda like a forum where grown men/women can talk random nonsense, be self-depreciative, be a little mischievous.

I don't think a forum needs to have say the hundreds of regular contributors that I imagine Urban has (I know there are thousands and thousands of members on Urban but only a very small percentage of those regularly post from what I can see). But it obviously needs more than the handful that currently post now - some days not even Bob has posted!

IMO both a small tight knit community and a large sprawling one have their pros and cons.

I dunno what to suggest, especially being a late comer. I'd read TCTE for a few years before signing up though so I think I've got a general gist of what it is about.

well it's my fault clearly. afaict j strung out etc. leaving had nothing to do with me, maybe they don't return because a new poster's contributions hurt their eyes, i don't know.

my advice fwiw, is have only a few forums but keep a feedback/philosophy/politics forum as reasonably prominent but separate bit. if arguments piss you off, i can't see what else people argue about - other than the internet being shit, politics, and the meaning of life or sexism. it could be strongly moderated. keep the radio forum top of the screen if you have the bottle, followed by chat about your day or whatever. what's most obvious is you have to navigate away from talking about your day to listen to the radio, dunno if that could be changed. oh and flash games are pretty good.

it is a forum tho, and the layout's not going to attract new users when you only have 5 posters.

wrt physically removing me or making old users post more, i'm not sure, you always hurt the ones that love you most

It's not that the layout will attract more users, it's that the current one makes it highly unlikey that any new users will bother to see any of the interesting stuff and just give up after 2 minutes.

It was actually all my fault. i went down into the kitchen to get a cream cracker and a piece of cheese at about three in the morning but didn't turn the light on and so I stood on it. I tried wiping it, blowing on it, turning it on off and then on again then put it back and hoped no-one would notice and continued eating my nocturnal cracker alone in the dark.

dont change the name! i like it plus i like the initials. but i agree that its all a bit sprawled out and could do with a tidy. dont delete anything though! just move it all to less forums..

also can we not have the girls forum unless its actually for girls to talk about girl stuff like menstrual cramps and why lesbianism rocks? it was funny for a bit but its got old.
